Overview of Key Dashboard Metrics

The Dashboard in the matching module is an invaluable tool for tracking and managing your matching gift performance. It provides a bird's-eye view of your organization's efforts and helps you monitor key statistics, donor engagement, and matching gift opportunities. Remember that each metric is calculated for the past year of data in your account, and data is updated once a day (in the morning).

Key Metrics to Track:

  1. Bird's-Eye View Stats

  2. Donor Engagement and Donor Event Feed

  3. Company Leaderboard

  4. Match Eligible Donations Leaderboard

Note: The Dashboard data is updated daily and represents performance based on the past year. New accounts will see a simplified version of the Dashboard until enough data is collected.

Bird's-Eye View Stats

These are the top-level stats visible on the Dashboard and provide a quick snapshot of your organization's matching gift performance.

1. Match Identified Dollars

  • Definition: The total dollar amount identified as potentially match-eligible based on donor interaction with the matching tools.

  • Typical Range: Most organizations see 4%–12% of their total donations identified as match-eligible.

2. Donor Engagement

  • Definition: The percentage of donors who have actively engaged with the matching gift program (e.g., used the search tool, opened emails, or accessed guidelines).

  • Recommended Engagement Rate: A successful organization typically identifies 50% or more of their donors as highly engaged.

3. Total Donor Events

  • Definition: The total number of matching gift-related actions taken by donors (e.g., submitting a match request, searching for employer matching gift programs).

  • Goal: A healthy account will see a steady increase in total donor events year after year.

  • Remember that this metric is calculated for the previous year, so if your organization hosted a large fundraising campaign in March 2022, your total donor events metric will include the large bump of events related to that fundraising campaign until April 2023. It is not a bad sign if you notice small drops in this metric correlated with large historic campaigns.

Donor Engagement and Donor Event Feed

The Donor Engagement widget shows how engaged your donors are with your matching gift strategy, while the Donor Event Feed tracks individual actions taken by each donor.

An account with  50% or more donors in the High Engagement category is doing a great job keeping their donors actively committed to the matching gift process. High donor engagement is directly linked to more matching gift revenue for your organization. If donors are more aware of the matching gift process, can easily discover their own eligibility, and are regularly reminded of the importance and mechanics of matching (all events tracked in the Donor Event Feed!), they are significantly more likely to submit a matching gift request.

How to Improve Engagement:

  • Review Automated Outreach: Ensure you’re using best practices for automated email outreach to increase donor engagement.

  • Integrate the Search Tool: Add the Double the Donation streamlined company search tool to your donation forms to maximize donor engagement at the point of donation, with our donation form integrations.

  • Providing easy opportunities for donors to interact with the Double the Donation company search tool, even when they aren't making a donation, like on a dedicated matching gift page.

Company Leaderboard

The Company Leaderboard ranks the companies most frequently identified by your donors. This is valuable data for your corporate giving strategy.

Many organizations use this leaderboard to enrich their corporate giving strategy.  Learn more about that strategy here. The matching module makes it easy for your organization to follow suit by highlighting the top company in your list, which should be the first company you consider for deeper relationships! This calculation takes into account whether the company has a matching gift program at all and whether the guidelines include matching your organization (based on the category exclusions settings configured in your account).

How to Use the Company Leaderboard:

Match Eligible Donations Leaderboard

The Match Eligible Donations Leaderboard highlights the donations that have the highest dollar amounts and are eligible for a matching gift.

How to Leverage This Data:

  • Personal Outreach: Use this data to target the largest donations and reach out to those donors for personalized follow-up.

  • Ensure Process Completion: Monitor these high-value donations to make sure they are processed correctly through the matching gift steps.

How to Improve Matching Gift Performance

1. Maximize Data Flow

Passing in as many of your organization's donations as possible, through integrations and data import.

2. Ensure Donors Have the Opportunity to Identify Match Eligibility

Checking all your organization's donation form integrations to ensure donors have the opportunity to identify their match eligibility as they give a gift.
