Are Double the Donation's matching gift tools and webpages ADA (American Disability Act) compliant?

This article shares the steps Double the Donation has taken to make our tools accessible and provides information about our VPAT.

Accessibility-Focused Development

Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT)

Double the Donation takes the accessibility of our donor-facing tools seriously!  Our goal is to ensure our web pages and matching gift tools are accessible to all individuals.

Accessibility-Focused Development

As part of our design and software development, our team has included:
  • Alt text for images
  • Colors are chosen to have a strong color contrast
  • No Image Maps
  • Choosing logical and well-defined field names
  • Enable text to be enlarged by placing minimal text in graphics
  • Data tables are appropriately identified
  • No repeated flashing image
  • Form fields are in a logical tab order
  • And far more checks that https://ada.gov/ requires for websites to be ADA-compliant.

We regularly run our software through accessibility testing and believe our public-facing tools meet the needs of nonprofits and public education institutions. If you believe a part of our public-facing tools has an accessibility issue, please email us at  accessibility@doublethedonation.com. The potential issue or concern will be reviewed at our next software development sprint which occurs every two weeks.

Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT)

At Double the Donation, we understand the importance of providing highly accessible tools for our clients and their end users. Of the various accessibility standards, the most applicable criteria regarding accessibility in matching gift fundraising is that of Section 508—the U.S. Federal accessibility standard. Thus, this is the framework that our team has committed to ongoing compliance with. Plus, our tools meet the criteria for ADA and WAI-ACT compliance as well.

In 2018, Double the Donation became the first matching gift provider to receive a VPAT (or Voluntary Product Accessibility Template). As of June 2023, we have renewed our VPAT to meet updated standards, reflecting the continuous development of both our tools and the accessibility guidelines to which we adhere.

In other words, Double the Donation’s matching gift technology surpasses the U.S. federal government’s revised standards for accessibility, as outlined in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

To this date, we remain the only matching gift software provider with a VPAT. This demonstrates not only our ongoing commitment to accessibility but also our user-centric product design and general stature as the leader in matching gift technology.
