Second Chance Submission Popup FAQs

This feature is currently only available for nonprofits using Double the Donation Matching Enterprise. Click here to learn more.

The Second Chance Submission popup is designed to remind match-eligible donors to submit their matching gift request if they forget during the donation process. This popup appears when a donor selects their company but does not complete the matching gift process.

  • Donor Experience: After making a donation and selecting their employer, the donor is redirected to a confirmation page. If the donor does not click on the "Go to Matching Gift Form" button, the popup will appear the next time they visit your website.

A popup appears larger in this image (for demonstration purposes) than it will appear on your organization's website.

Implementation

Implementation for the Second Chance Submission popup takes place in two parts. For the first part, you will need access to your Double the Donation account. For the second part, you will need access to your organization's website's CMS/backend system.

Part 1: Double the Donation Matching

  • Step 1: Navigate to the "Advanced Settings" tab
In the matching module, go to Settings > Advanced Settings.

  • Step 2: Enable the Popup
In the Second Chance Submission Popup Configuration section, toggle the Enabled button to turn on the feature.

  • Step 3: Select Your Theme
Choose between the Light or Dark theme for the popup. This will allow the popup to match the design of your website.

  • Step 4: Copy the Embed Code
After enabling the popup and selecting your theme, copy the embed code provided in the Popup Configuration section.

Part 2: Your Website

  • Step 1: Navigate to the "Header" or "Footer" Editor
Depending on the CMS your organization uses (e.g., WordPress, Wix), go to the header or footer editor of your website.

  • Step 2: Paste the Embed Code
Paste the embed code you copied from the Advanced Settings tab into the header or footer section of your website. It is important to place the code on every page to ensure the popup appears wherever the donor navigates.

  • Step 3: Clear Your Website’s Cache
If your organization uses a caching plugin, such as WP Rocket, make sure to clear your website’s cache after pasting the code.

  • Step 4: Test the Popup
To test the Second Chance Submission popup:

    • Make a donation on your donation form and select a company using the matching module search tool.

    • Confirm that the matching gift plugin initializes on the confirmation page but do not interact with it.

    • Navigate to another page on your website (such as your homepage) and confirm that the popup appears.

    • Click "Submit Your Matching Gift" on the popup and ensure that the status in the matching module updates to “Match Initiated.”

It is important to place the embed code on every page of your website. The quickest and most foolproof way to do this is to place the embed code in your header or footer. Your webmaster may recommend another approach; please consult your Double the Donation support team if so.

Configuration

Your organization can choose between a light or dark theme for the popup, based on your website’s design.

Steps to Select Your Theme:

  1. In the Advanced Settings tab of your Double the Donation Matching account, navigate to the Second Chance Submission Popup Configuration section.

  2. Select either the Light or Dark theme.

We recommend testing both themes on your website to see which fits best with your site's design.

The Second Chance Submission popup will not work if:

  • Your donation form is hosted on a different domain from your organization’s website. For example, if your website is hosted on organization.com and the donation form is hosted on donation.organization.com, the popup will not function as expected.
