What is the mapping logic for Double the Donation Gift Administration?
This article explains how Double the Donation standardizes vendor-specific CSR reports into standard gift categories for Benevity, CyberGrants, and YourCause.
To provide a unified experience across workplace giving programs, Double the Donation standardizes payout disbursement data from various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) vendors.
Because every CSR platform uses different terminology—for example, one vendor might label a gift Payroll while another labels it Individual-Payroll—our system applies a normalization layer during import. This normalization automatically categorizes every transaction into one of five standard gift types.
Standardized Gift Categories
Every incoming transaction is mapped to one of the following "Standardized Gift Types":
-
Matching Gifts: Employer-funded matches of employee contributions.
-
Payroll Giving: Deductions taken directly from an employee's paycheck.
-
Volunteer Grants: "Dollars for Doers" grants earned through volunteer hours.
-
Individual Direct Giving: Standard out-of-pocket donations (e.g., credit card) made directly from within the CSR portal.
-
Corporate Grants: Company-funded grants, incentive rewards, or specialty campaigns.
-
Uncategorized/Blank: Records for which “Gift Type” was not determined.
Vendor-Specific Mapping Logic
YourCause
YourCause utilizes a "Transaction Type" column. We map these directly based on the specific transaction label:
-
Matching Gifts: Employer Match-Payroll Match, Employer Match-Credit Card Match, Employer Match-Offline Match.
-
Payroll Giving: Individual-Payroll.
-
Individual Direct Giving: Individual-Credit Card.
CyberGrants
CyberGrants data is primarily mapped based on the "Program Name" column:
-
Matching Gifts: Matching Gifts, Matching Gift, Request a Match for a Previous Donation.
-
Individual Direct Giving: Credit Card Donations.
Benevity
Benevity utilizes a more complex two-factor matrix involving "Donation Type" and "Donation Method." Our system evaluates both to determine the correct standardized type.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why does a "User Donation" sometimes map to "Volunteer Grant"?
A: In the Benevity system, if an employee records volunteer hours that result in a grant, the "Donation Method" is listed as "Volunteer." Our system prioritizes the method in this instance to ensure the nonprofit sees it as a Volunteer Grant.
Q: What happens if a new transaction type is introduced?
A: If an imported transaction falls outside the standard mapping logic, the system will leave its category empty for your review. From there, you have the flexibility to manually map it to a specific Gift Type or leave it empty, which defaults it to "Uncategorized/Blank."
