This article walks you through the steps to add DNS records for email domains hosted by other providers so that Double the Donation emails can be sent from your organization's email domain.
Firespring
If your email domain is managed by Firespring, follow these steps:
-
Reach Out to Firespring Support
Email support@firespring.com to request the addition of the required CNAME and TXT records for Double the Donation in your DNS backend. -
Provide Record Details
Include the Record Types, Hostnames, and Values found in your Double the Donation account under Email Customization → Sending. -
Verify DNS Records
Once the records are added, you will see a Valid message confirming that your email-sending domain is verified.
Note: DNS changes can take 24-48 hours to reflect in your Double the Donation account.
Step 2: Configure DNS Records
Adding the DNS Records
To configure your DNS records:
-
Log in to your DNS provider’s dashboard (such as Firespring, GoDaddy, Network Solutions, etc.).
-
Add the required CNAME and TXT records as specified in your Double the Donation account.
Troubleshooting CNAME Records
If you see a CNAME Not Found or DMARC Not Found error:
-
Wait 24-48 hours: DNS propagation can take time, so check again after 24-48 hours.
-
Confirm all records are added: If one or two records are valid but another is not, ensure that all required records have been added to your DNS settings.
-
Check domain correctness: Ensure that CNAME records are added to the correct domain. For example, if your Double the Donation email is matchinggifts@catrescueclub.org, make sure the CNAME records are not added to the wrong domain like catrescueclub.com.
-
Avoid typos: Copy and paste the records directly from your Double the Donation account. Hand-typing can introduce errors, like extra spaces or punctuation.
-
Follow DNS provider instructions: Some providers, such as GoDaddy or Network Solutions, may require specific formatting, such as entering dtd._domainkey without the full domain name.
Tip: If you're using a custom nameserver, make sure the CNAME records are entered into the account associated with that nameserver.
If these scenarios do not apply to your DNS records, please reach out to support@doublethedonation.com to troubleshoot to find a solution.
FAQs
Q: Will additional records (e.g., SPF/DKIM) need to be added to our domain?
A: No. To set up Double the Donation emails, only the CNAME and DMARC records are required. No additional records, such as SPF or DKIM, are necessary for email authentication.
