This article outlines how Double the Donation Tools work for Bilingual Organizations.
At Double the Donation, we work with some of the largest nonprofit organizations in the US and Canada. As donor bases become increasingly diverse, many of these organizations prioritize multilingual communication to ensure inclusivity and compliance with local language regulations.
Whether your nonprofit serves both English and Spanish-speaking communities in the U.S. or operates in countries like Canada, where bilingual communication in English and French is federally mandated, Double the Donation offers flexible tools to help meet your bilingual outreach needs.
While our matching gift platform currently defaults to English, clients can customize several components of our tools to communicate effectively in multiple languages. This article outlines how you can use our current features to support bilingual donor engagement.
1. Making Your Emails Bilingual
Double the Donation’s customizable email templates allow organizations to craft donor communications in multiple languages. Whether you’re targeting English and French speakers in Canada or English and Spanish speakers in the U.S., you can fully personalize the content to reflect your audience.
What You Can Customize:
- Subject Line: Include both languages, e.g., “Want to double your donation? / Voulez vous doublez votre don?” or "Want to double your donation / ¿Quieres duplicar tu donación?"
- Email Body: Write messages in both languages, either side-by-side or in clearly separated sections.
- CTA Buttons: Customize the call-to-action to reflect both languages. Below are some examples for English/ Canadian-French.
- Form Available Button Text: Search the matching gift submission process! / Commencez les processus de soumission des dons jumelés!
- Link to Search Plugin Button Text: See if I'm eligible! / Voir si je suis éligible!
- Indicate Match-Eligible Button Text: I'm not eligible for a matching gift. / Je ne suis pas éligible pour un don jumelé.
- Indicate Match-Submitted Button text: I've submitted my matching gift request! / J'ai soumis ma demande de jumelage!

2. Making the Plugin Bilingual on Your Website
The embedded matching gift plugin can also be edited to include bilingual content for front-facing elements, creating a more inclusive experience for all website visitors.
Editable Plugin Elements:
- Search Title: Example: “See if your employer will match your donation! / Voyez si votre employeur peut apporter une contribution équivalente à votre don!" or “Verifica si tu empleador igualara tu donación”.
- Search Text Box: Use bilingual placeholder text like “Search company name / Recherchez le nom d'une entreprise" or "Search company name / Buscar nombre de la empresa."
- Let’s Check Button: Update to “Let’s Check | Vérifions” or “Check Now | Verificar ahora”.
Note: While the search results and company-specific information will still primarily appear in English, these initial interface customizations allow you to offer a more accessible experience upfront.

3. Customizing Language in Donation Form Integrations
For certain donation form integrations, you can modify the language displayed on the form itself to support bilingual communication.
Suggestions for Setup:
- Form Labels and Instructions: Present form fields and instructions in both languages.
- Language Toggle (if available): Enable users to switch between English, Spanish, French, or other applicable languages.
- Confirmation Messages: Include bilingual thank-you or confirmation messages after form submission.
These adjustments help ensure that your entire donation experience—from form to follow-up—is accessible and inclusive.
Note: This customization is only available for specific donation form integrations. If you're unsure whether your donation form allows for such functionality, you may contact the Double the Donation Support Team.

We understand the importance of bilingual support and are actively exploring ways to further enhance multilingual capabilities across our tools. The ability to better serve bilingual communities, meet government mandates (like Canada’s Official Languages Act), and provide more inclusive donor journeys is a top priority.
