How does Double the Donation work outside of the U.S.?

This article explains how Double the Donation works for organizations outside the United States, including Canada, the UK, and Australia.

International Reach

While the majority of our clients are in the U.S., Double the Donation works with organizations in various countries, including:

  • Canada

  • United Kingdom (UK)

  • Australia

Corporate Matching Gift Programs

Each company creates its own matching gift guidelines, which Double the Donation presents as originally written. Since matching gift programs first developed in the U.S., many of these programs are still written in USD and feature American contact information, even for employees abroad. However, more companies are now making their programs international.

International Companies with Matching Gift Programs:

  1. General Electric

    • Donations can be made in any currency, but the matching amount is converted to USD for matching purposes.

  2. The Moody’s Foundation

    • Employees from various countries, including the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and more, are eligible for matching gifts up to USD $2,500.

  3. Home Depot

    • Matches are provided for employees in the U.S. and Canada, but program details are in USD.

International Companies with Foreign Currency Guidelines

Some companies based outside the U.S. use their local currency but are still committed to matching gifts made in foreign currencies:

  • UBM

    • Employees can claim up to £500 (or the equivalent in local currency) for matching gifts.

Our Database and International Companies

  • Coverage: Our database includes information on international companies, but the majority (over 20,000+) of companies listed are U.S.-based.

  • Canadian Companies: We have strong coverage of Canadian employers with matching gift programs, though the percentage of match-eligible donors in Canada is smaller compared to the U.S.

  • Global Impact: An organization with 10,000 U.S. donors will typically raise more in matching gifts than an organization with the same number of international donors.
